What the app does

Where Did I Save? helps you find screenshots by describing what you remember. To do that, it reads the text and visual content of the screenshots you allow it to access and builds a search index. All of this processing happens on your iPhone or iPad, using on-device models.

Data we collect

None. The app has no account, no server, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking or crash-reporting SDKs. We do not receive your photos, the text recognized in them, your searches, or any usage information.

Access to your photos

• The app asks for access to your photo library so it can find screenshots. You can allow all photos, only selected photos, or no access and add images manually.
• The app never changes or moves photos in your library. It deletes photos only when you ask it to in Clean Up, and iOS asks you to confirm first. Deleted photos go to Recently Deleted in the Photos app, where you can restore them for 30 days.
• Photos stored only in iCloud are not downloaded by the app, unless you turn on “Include Screenshots in iCloud”. Then, over Wi‑Fi, the app fetches a small copy of each such screenshot from your own iCloud Photos (operated by Apple), reads it on your device and keeps only the search index. The copy is not saved by the app and is never sent anywhere else. You can turn this off at any time.

Data stored on your device

• The search index (recognized text, its position in each screenshot, and visual search data) is stored only inside the app on your device.
• Images you import directly into the app (for example from Files or the share sheet) are stored as local copies inside the app.
• Recent searches are not saved unless you turn that option on.
• The index is marked to be excluded from device backups. The app does not control iCloud Photos or backups that you have turned on in iOS.
• You can delete recent searches, the search index, imported content, or all app data at any time in Settings › Storage & Data. Deleting the app removes all of its data.

Sensitive screenshots

The app can recognize screenshots that appear to contain card numbers, ID numbers, passwords, or verification codes, and hides them until you authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode. This detection runs on your device. Authentication is handled by iOS; the app never receives your biometric data.

Reminders

If you turn on reminders, the app finds dates in your screenshots (for example when a coupon expires or when an event starts) and schedules local notifications on your device. Reminders are created and delivered by iOS on your device; nothing is sent to a server. Reminders for screenshots marked as sensitive do not show their content on the lock screen.

Calendar, Maps and phone

When you tap Add to Calendar, Open in Maps or Call, the app hands that detail to the system app you chose. The app does not read your calendar or contacts.

Network use

The core features work without an internet connection. The app connects to the internet only when you choose to download an optional component:

• Reading packs for languages that iOS cannot read on its own (such as Hebrew), downloaded from the open-source Tesseract project on GitHub.
• Offline translation languages, downloaded by iOS through Apple.

These downloads do not include any of your content. As with any download, the server you download from can see your device's IP address. Links found in your screenshots open only when you tap them and confirm.

Children

The app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
